1. Responsiveness
Before a hotel can become a trusted partner, it has to get the basics right. For Graziano, the list is straightforward.
“I want responsiveness, knowledge of the product, somebody that cares, and somebody that is interested in creative solutions.”
None of those qualities sound revolutionary. That is exactly why they matter.
Planners are often working across multiple clients, deadlines, venues, budgets, and stakeholders at once. A slow response does not just create an inconvenience. It can hold up an entire decision-making process.
The same is true of incomplete or inaccurate information.
Graziano points out that product knowledge is not always as strong as planners expect.
“You'd be shocked how many partners don't know their product from where I sit.”
A salesperson who responds quickly but cannot answer basic questions about meeting space, room flow, renovations, transportation, food and beverage capabilities, or property limitations creates more work for the planner.
Bashaw says Benchmark has been putting more emphasis on both speed and accuracy.
“We're making sure not only is the response time fast, but, like you said, are we accurate? We have all the information. We're asking the right questions.”
The best hotel partners understand that responsiveness is not about winning a race to the inbox. It is about giving planners useful answers quickly enough to keep business moving.
Fast is good. Fast and right is better.
