5 Best Mother-Daughter Getaways

There’s nothing like quality time with mom, the one who has loved and supported you through every season. But as life gets busier with school, careers, social obligations and raising kids of our own, quiet moments with mom—not the grandmother she’s possibly become, just mom—are increasingly rare and fleeting.

If you’ve been considering a mother-daughter getaway for quality time together, consider this your sign to finally make it happen. Dig your toes in the sand, indulge in spa treatments, go for long walks in the wilderness, or just enjoy each other’s company on one of these memorable mother-daughter retreats.

1. Vero Beach, Florida

Escape to Vero Beach, Florida, for a vacation that blends beach time with boutique shopping and local attractions. The McKee Botanical Gardens, a National Historic Landmark, is a must-visit, featuring 10,000 native and tropical plants, including a stunning collection of waterlilies. You can also mosey around downtown Vero Beach, catch a performance at Riverside Theatre, or end the day with a sunset cruise on the Indian River Lagoon.

Stay: Enjoy good conversation and relaxation by the beach or pool—frozen drinks from the onsite Cabana Bar in hand—at Costa d’Este Beach Resort & Spa, owned by Emilio and Gloria Estefan. You and mom can start mornings with sunrise yoga, explore your surroundings on beach cruisers, or try water sports like standup paddleboarding (and share a good laugh when you inevitably fall over). Afterward, indulge in a spa treatment at the CISpa.

2. Woodinville Wine Country, Washington

If the mountains (and wineries) are calling your names, consider a visit to Woodinville Wine Country and the Sammamish River Valley in Washington State, about 20 miles north of Seattle. Woodinville Wine Country is renowned for its reds but has an equally impressive variety of white wines. In fact, Tenor Wines’ 2022 La Reyna Blanca Vineyard Chardonnay recently received a perfect 100-point score from wine critic Virginie Boone of JebDunnuck.com, the first Washington State winery to achieve this honor. In addition to wineries, the region is known for its craft breweries, distilleries, boutique shopping, and farm-to-table-dining—all amid stunning Pacific Northwest scenery and ample opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.

Stay: Willows Lodge is the perfect home base for a visit to Washington wine country. Enjoy luxurious yet cozy accommodations, three onsite dining options, and a full-service spa with a range of facials, massages and body treatments, plus an outdoor hydrotherapy pool and dry cedar sauna.

3. Fort Wayne, Indiana

Small town charm meets big city energy in Fort Wayne, Indiana, known for its burgeoning arts and culture scene and riverfront developments. Head to the Fort Wayne Museum of Art to see its impressive glass collection, or stroll the Public Art Trail, featuring 150 awe-inspiring murals and sculptures. At the Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center, mothers and daughters can trace their family roots together and even schedule a genealogy consultation ahead of time. If you and mom like Vera Bradley bags (headquartered in Fort Wayne), time your visit with the annual Vera Bradley Annual Outlet Sale, usually hosted in the spring.

Stay: Co-designed by Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, who co-founded Vera Bradley from her home in Fort Wayne, The Bradley features contemporary rooms that capture the same playful charm as the luggage company’s iconic patterns. Guests can borrow bikes to explore the city, with the riverfront just a short ride away.

4. Kennebunkport, Maine

Savor coastal charm (and delicious lobster rolls) in Kennebunkport, Maine. Dock Square, the heart of town, features an array of boutique shopping, historic inns, and seafood restaurants featuring the catch of the day. Just outside of town, you can set sail on a schooner, enjoy a scenic ride along Ocean Drive, relax on Goose Rocks Beach, and catch a glimpse of Walker’s Point, the private summer compound of the Bush family. It’s also easy to explore the neighboring and equally charming towns of Ogunquit and York.

Stay: Check into The Colony Hotel, a historic oceanfront resort with a timeless elegance that transports guests to the simpler days of yesteryear. The resort features an outdoor pool, putting green, and a variety of restaurants. It is also recognized as Maine’s first green hotel for its eco-forward practices and amenities.

5. Newport, Rhode Island

Your partner might not be keen to ogle Gilded Age mansions with you, but your mom or daughter surely will. Explore The Breakers, the Vanderbilt family’s 70-room “summer cottage”; Marble House, which once served as a base for women’s suffrage rallies and events; and Rosecliff, featured in films including “The Great Gatsby” (1974). For a different vantage point, stroll the Cliff Walk—mansions on one side, ocean on the other—or cruise along Ocean Drive for panoramic vistas. It’s also fun to explore the boutique shops downtown and attend the annual Seafood Festival at Bowan’s Wharf, hosted every October.

Stay: The Wayfinder Newport offers boutique accommodations with fun retro touches and everything you need for a restful stay, plus an outdoor pool and fitness center. Its on-site seafood restaurant, The Clam, has quickly earned itself a name since opening in 2025.
