Don’t let Wisconsin Dells’ classic water park reputation fool you—this longtime family destination is stepping into a more imaginative era of travel. While best known for its water parks, the Dells is starting to offer more creative, immersive experiences beyond the usual slides and wave pools. Leading the charge is Dellshire Resort, a new adventure-driven property now open in the heart of the Dells. The 208-room resort ditches the standard hotel vibe for a medieval-inspired setting, complete with a dragon at the entrance, castle-style architecture, and story-driven details throughout.

It’s part hotel, part adventure, built to pull you into the experience. Whether you’re traveling with kids, planning a group trip, or want something a little different, Dellshire is shaping up to be one of the most unique new openings in the Midwest.

Here’s a first look at the new property—and why it’s worth planning a trip around.

Step Into the Fairytale

From the moment you arrive, Dellshire makes it clear this is not a typical resort. A dramatic 70-foot long fire-breathing dragon greets guests at the entrance, giving a clear sense of what’s to come. Inside, the design leans into a fantasy-inspired look, with themed spaces that carry the idea throughout the resort.

Guest rooms continue the narrative with cozy, elevated “chambers” designed for rest after a day of adventure. Think mural-lined walls, arched windows, wood furnishings, and warm, inviting textures layered around plush beds. For those traveling with family or friends, a collection of larger suites—like the Earl Suite, Watchtower Suite, Gatehouse Suite, and Duke Suite—add extra space to spread out, with multi-bedroom layouts, bunk quarters, and roomy living areas that make group stays feel just as immersive.

Play the Hero

Dellshire’s biggest differentiator is how it transforms guests into participants. Through its signature mixed-reality attraction, Legends of Dellshire, which opens soon, the resort invites visitors to take part in interactive, story-driven quests woven throughout the property. Blending virtual-reality play and real-world exploration, guests can follow evolving storylines, encounter characters, and unlock new elements of the narrative as they move through the resort—blurring the line between hotel stay and live-action adventure.

When you’re ready for a break from questing, the 9,000-square-foot family entertainment center, Hero’s Hall, offers arcade-style games and legendary prizes that keep the energy going.

Make a Splash

You may be in a fantasy realm, but it’s still the Dells—aka the The Waterpark Capital of the World!®—Wisconsin Dells—, so water plays a starring role. Dellshire delivers with multiple enchanting pools in its main aquatic hub, Serpent’s Bay. Guests enjoy two year-round indoor/outdoor heated pools, an indoor pool with splashpad and children’s slide, oversized indoor hot tub, and seasonal outdoor pool complete with a waterfall.

At the center of it all is Scale Cove, the resort’s swim-up bar, where guests 21+ can move seamlessly between indoor and outdoor waters while enjoying drinks without ever leaving the pool. Scale Cove quenches more than thirst though, as guests relaxing on lounge chairs, seated at tables, or enjoying private cabanas can dive into an array of snacks, salads, and more.

Feast Like Royalty

With five on-site dining venues, Dellshire turns meals into part of the adventure. Blade & Barrel, the resort’s signature restaurant, channels the spirit of a classic tavern with elevated comfort food and locally inspired dishes like the Half-Roasted Chicken, Seven-Finger Pork Chop, and tableside King’s Cleaver for Two. There's also the Thirsty Dragon, which serves craft cocktails, snacks, and salads in a cozy, fireside setting, while Kettle & Keep serves coffee, gelato, and grab-and-go provisions for guests on the move.

In Hero’s Hall, Gilded Spouts brings a lively, communal energy to the family entertainment center and features a tap wall full of self-serve beers and beverages along with a diverse selection of artisanal pizzas. Scale Cove, the swim-up bar, keeps poolside guests refreshed with easygoing bites and cocktails.

Plan Beyond the Castle

Dellshire feels like its own little world, but it’s also a great home base for exploring Wisconsin Dells. It’s close to popular water parks, outdoor attractions, and scenic spots like Mirror Lake State Park, so that you can mix a bit of fantasy with classic Midwest adventure.

For visitors looking to venture beyond the water, nearby Cascade Mountain offers year-round recreation, including skiing and snowboarding in winter and hiking and biking in the warmer months. You can also check out the area’s sandstone formations and views along the Wisconsin River, or spend a day at Noah’s Ark Waterpark. Back at the resort, Keystone Event Center offers full-service catering and meeting and event space for up to 280 guests, positioning it as a distinctive option for group trips, celebrations, and even work retreats that don’t feel like work.

The Bottom Line

Dellshire Resort is more than a new place to stay—it’s a signal of where travel is headed. Experiences are becoming more interactive, more imaginative, and more transportive. And in Wisconsin Dells, that future looks a lot like a castle—where every guest gets to be the hero of their own story.
